The future of Daiwa spinning reels is airdrive design. By reducing the weight of the rotor, spool and yoke assembly, easier rotation is achieved. This effortless rotation lets the angler feel the true joy of unique functionality.

This new chapter begins with 22 Exist – the role for the future. The 22 Exist was created to be the new benchmark. Airdrive design is the pinnacle that everyone will follow.

To begin developing Airdrive Design, Daiwa first separated the spinning reel into two key components. The first was the “rear unit,” which consists of the body and key internal components such as the drive wheel. By introducing MQ technology along with the robust Digigear, which is now becoming standard on Daiwa's spinning reels, it has given the rear unit high strength and durability.

After developing the rear unit, Daiwa set about redeveloping the key components of the so-called “front unit”. By redeveloping the rotor, coil and bracket assembly, Daiwa has managed to reduce the weight of the front unit. Airdrive Design is the result of this new way of thinking. Daiwa has developed an innovative masterpiece that gives the angler total control: reduced weight, smooth rotation and high responsiveness. All of these combined elements come together to form Airdrive Design.

Airdrive design can be divided into 4 key technologies.

The new Airdrive rotor and the newly developed Airdrive Bail combine to reduce the weight at the top of the reel. Reduced weight ensures smooth and consistent rotation with faster startup and lower inertia. Unnecessary weight has been reduced to develop the new Airdrive Spool, which fits perfectly with the Airdrive Rotor & Airdrive Bail to complete the redesigned front unit.

In contrast to its own internal roller structure, Daiwa has developed a low-contact structure between the main shaft and the pinion called the Airdrive Shaft. Using this method reduces friction and improves smoothness. Combining these new technologies, the reel is extremely lightweight and allows the angler to experience fluid rotation with less inertia and better control of line and rod action.
