Shimano has exclusively developed the Super Slow Oscillation, which encourages many anglers to rely entirely on Shimano reels and buy the Ultegra XTE and XSE equipped with this technology. Combined with all the other technical features of our long-range superstars, these are difficult to ignore. Not only do they allow you to cast further - they also enable safer fights, are more robust and also fit with pretty much any rod design. Carp anglers will prefer the XTE’s dark “Stelath” design. The silver XSE design offers surf anglers or fans of brighter colors a great alternative.

Regardless of the design, you can be sure that you have made an excellent choice. The latest Shimano technologies are installed inside the light and at the same time robust Ci4+ housing: The Hagane gear and X-Ship were combined with Infinity Drive and Silent Drive to guarantee smooth cranking and noise-free running.

However, this first impression should not hide the fact that the Ultegras are workhorses that deliver more power under pressure than is usually necessary. Although the inner workings of the reel represent another masterpiece of engineering, it is primarily the outstanding long-distance casting properties that attract anglers to the Ultegra XTE and XSE. The Super Slow 5 Oscillation ensures outstanding line laying, which is proven to be responsible for low-friction line flow when casting.

But there are other long-distance casting features in the XTE and XSE models: Rigid Cast prevents the line from falling off the moment you let the line fly through the rings. The parallel body design sends the line towards the rod's guide ring at the perfect angle. Since the line flows over the discharge edge of the aluminum AR-C spool, the line unwinds with almost no friction. The result is an outstanding casting performance that you would otherwise find in vain with reels in this price segment.
